Dive Brief:
- Actavis acquired Forest Labs for $28 billion in July.
- The slated job cuts in New York are coming very soon after the elimination of 190 jobs in St. Louis, Missouri this summer.
- Most of the operations for Actavis will be located in New Jersey; but it's still unclear what will happen to other manufacturing facilities in Cincinnati, Ohio and Dublin, Ireland.
Dive Insight:
The Actavis-Forest merger is fully underway now that the deal has been struck and finalized on paper. Plant closures are a standard part of merging two companies, as firms attempt to save money by eliminating redundancies.
This is the case with Actavis, which has already cut jobs in St. Louis, with upcoming cuts in Long Island. The coup de grâce will occur in mid-2015 when Forest's headquarters in New York will be permanently closed.
