SMi’s 4th Annual ADC Summit 2015 will be taking place in just over 2 weeks’ time on the 18th – 19th May 2015 in London, UK. The event will include 30+ leading organisations, 4 hours of networking, 1 round table discussion and 1 workshop.
In the run up to the event, Chief Scientific Officer Mahendra Deonarain from Antikor Biopharma Ltd, was asked a few questions about his upcoming presentation at the conference. Mahendra’s knowledge will provide invaluable insight into the fascinating and evolving area of antibody drug conjugates as he speaks on day 1 of the event, highlighting Opti-linked Antibody Fragments as ADCs.
When asked to describe his role and current activities, Mr Deonarain said:
“I’m the CSO and COO for Antikor Biopharma. We recently renamed when we moved from our small labs at Imperial College to our own premises at the Stevenage Bioscience Catalyst and focussed on ADCs rather than phototherapy.
I manage the ADC R&D program as well as our collaborations but spend a lot of time ensuring that we are operating effectively now that we are completely independent. I am part of the management team that strategically plans where our fragment-based ADC program is going.”
On what he thought the strengths of this year’s ADC Summit are, he commented:
“The program is varied giving a great insight into all aspects of ADCs. As important, the venue allows close networking and the establishment of future partnerships.”
Mr Deonarain expressed what he believes the biggest challenges for the industry are:
“I believe that each cancer has unique features that makes generating a ‘one size fits all’ ADC approach very difficult. Each platform will need to be modified to hit the ‘sweet spot’ making development more risky. I think we are going to see some high profile failures that will dent confidence but raise innovation.”
