According to the survey data, the criteria used to determine what makes a company meaningful to work for included high job satisfaction, low job stress, ability to telecommute, high job meaning, experienced median pay/total cash compensation and salary delta. Using these criteria, the researchers created an algorithm, and based on this methodology percentage figures were produced.
So as the company that ranked number one in terms of most meaningful company to work for, 92% of AbbVie employees ranked their job experience as meaningful. Johnson & Johnson ranked number 21, with 79% of employees calling their job experience meaninful. Pfizer ranked number 24, with 77% of employees calling their job experience meaninful.
While many of the factors which determine which companies are top-ranked are related to personal well-being, the metric of meaningfulness in and of itself cannot be discounted. In many cases, employees like working for pharma and healthcare companies, because of a sense that they are contributing to a greater good.
